The Search, Part 1

After buying the land in Bayfield, Dwayne and I started to research tiny homes and tiny home builders. I had a few favorites that I had followed on Instagram over the years, so I started there. Then one day while at City Dock, we saw a tiny home on the Madeline Island ferry, going over to Madeline Island! We were so impressed by that builder that we looked into working with them to create a custom tiny home. We also would look on Facebook Marketplace. Some listings would be promising but too far, and others would be close but they didn't impress us. It was a lot of research, watching videos, visiting websites, and quite a few phone calls. Then one day, the day we had put the boat in Bayfield away for winter, I saw a tiny home for sale on a Facebook group called Tiny House Marketplace. These listings were all over world. I mostly joined to get ideas about builders, not to actually find a tiny house to buy. I looked at the photos of this tiny house and thought, I really like this one. I wondered where it was located so I scrolled down. It was located in the small town we lived in! I sent a message to the seller right away. She responded and said someone was coming to look at it later that evening, but if we could get there at 5:15 PM, she could show it to us. I looked at our ETA. We would be arriving at home by 5:03 PM. I told her we would be there!

We took a walkthrough and said, "Yes, this will be perfect on our land in Bayfield."

This tiny home was built by Escape in Rice Lake, WI. Their facility is not too far from us, but we had not researched them much until finding this model on Marketplace. This particular model is 26 ft long and 8.5 ft wide. We had planned on building one that was larger, but this felt like a good place to start. The previous owners had purchased it new and lived in it for about 3 years. We were mostly looking forward to having it as a weekend getaway for the seasons that the boat was not in the water, but plans had started to develop into something a little bigger than that!
